Getting Started
Diagnostic Records
If treatment is indicated at the initial visit, your first step to
a healthier smile is the preparation of diagnostic records.
This consists of impressions for study models of the teeth,
digital photographs of the face and mouth, and x-rays of
the head, teeth and jaws. This diagnostic information
enables Dr. Godwin to carefully review the nature of your
orthodontic concerns and develop a treatment program
that addresses your special needs.
In order to minimize your time away from school and work,
these records can usually be obtained the same day as
your first visit. We use digital radiography to create our
images. Digital radiography minimizes your exposure to
radiation. In addition, this state-of-the-art tool produces
the images instantaneously, allowing us to serve you and
your general dentist efficiently and effectively.
Treatment Consultation
Your First Visit
From the moment you walk in, we want you to feel
welcome. We love seeing new patients, and we're excited
to talk to you about your family's orthodontic needs. Our
goal is to provide treatment that is uniquely designed for
each patient.
To ensure that you have a complete understanding of the
recommended course of treatment, a consultation will be
held prior to the placement of orthodontic appliances
(braces). During this visit, we will explain the nature and
extent of the orthodontic concern and review a plan of
treatment developed to address your specific needs. We
will show you the types of orthodontic appliances available
and review the estimated length of treatment. We will also
discuss the fee for treatment and insurance coverage (if
applicable) and work with you to customize a payment plan
that fits your budget. It is desirable to have all concerned
persons present at this visit so that we can address any
questions you may have pertaining to the treatment.
You can download new patient health history forms here.

During your first visit, Dr. Godwin will conduct a
comprehensive evaluation to determine if this is the best
time to begin treatment, or whether treatment should wait
for further growth and development to occur. If treatment is
indicated, he will provide you with complete information
about the nature of the problem and offer treatment
options for correction. He will review when the
recommended treatment should begin and how long it will
take. We'll also be happy to discuss the financial aspect of
your care. Though fees will vary based on the nature and
complexity of individual cases, we offer a variety of
affordable payment options, including coordination of
insurance.
Some patients may not be ready for braces. In these
instances, you will be placed in our Pre-Treatment
Guidance Program where you will be monitored
periodically for proper jaw growth and development of the
teeth.
It is our goal to provide you with all the information
necessary to assist you in making an informed decision
about your treatment. At Bel Air Orthodontics, your initial
consultation is always complimentary.
